A blisteringly hot day met competitors in the glorious Wiltshire downlands. The track was dusty at the start, but quick everywhere else. Perhaps because specialist hillclimb cars tend to dominate here, BARC SBD Speed Championship competitors were a little thin on the ground, although those that attending flew the flag well.
Starting off with Class 4a – Roadgoing Series Production Cars up to 2000cc, a large class of eighteen included Wynne Morgan in the Renault Williams Clio. Wynne’s time of 41.01 seconds netted him a eighth place – a good result.
In the same class, Helen Currie‘s Renault Clio, albeit in standard trim, was only a tad behind on 42.55 seconds, but such was the competitiveness of the class it put her down to fifteenth place!
It was a day to forget for the Hunt’s, with Emma’s Golf practicing, but then not running in the afternoon. Jim also practiced, but carry over’s from his fiery exit at Pembrey meant the day turned into a shake down session to rid him of various minor gremlins. The coil, plugs and some leads needed attention, so they packed up early and headed to Northampton for the next event.
Final runner then was Clive Wooster‘s Radical SR4. At a venue he knows well, Clive took second place in practice and retained his position all day. The eleven strong class was whittled down to eight runners through various withdrawals, but Clive practiced strongly and held onto a Personal Best of 32.95 seconds for the pot.
