ROUND 24 – 22nd October

We gathered for the final round of the Championship with Storm Brian in the background and the Championship still to be decided. So, we were lucky to have a windy, but dry day to battle it out!

Class 0b, Standard Production Sports and Saloon Cars over 1400cc and up to 2000cc, saw Steve Riddle take the top place in his Clio 172 Cup with 88.91 seconds and, although still to be officially confirmed, is the 2017 BARC SBD Speed Championship overall winner! Having chipped away at his times all year and been on tenterhooks for the past six weeks, Steve can finally relax and enjoy his success. Well done to a very popular competitor!

In Class 2, Road Going Production Sports and Saloon Cars 1401 to 2000cc, our Championship Runner Up, Elen Worthington, also won her class with 86.96 seconds. Elen had an outside chance, but was always up against it. Although she took a maximum score, she just couldn’t catch Steve. Still an excellent result for Team Worthington though.

In the same Class, Leo and Adriano Martorana driving the Alfa MiTo came forth and fifth, Leo on 91.53 seconds and Adriano on 93.57 seconds.

RESULTS – ROUND 24

Next up in Class 9, Modified Series Production Cars and Modified Specialist Production Cars 1401cc to 2000cc, was Championship contender Wynne Morgan. Until a few rounds back, Wynne was troubling the leaders, but mechanical woes hit him hard. Wynne won the class on the day in his Clio Cup on 88.50 seconds.

Clive Wooster‘s Radical SR4 ran untroubled in Class 13, Sports Libre up to 1700cc, but it was an overall placing that was Clive’s aim. He came in on a Class win, forth overall and the BARC Centre Member FTD with 73.32 seconds. A great day, but he wouldn’t want to scream through the banking turn at 140mph with a buffeting wind too often!

Final Runner was Phil Williams in Class 15, Racing Cars up to 1100cc. Phil’s Jedi recording 83.66 seconds on the day.

So, whilst I’ll leave Noreen to confirm all the placings and award winners, it has been a great Championship year. 2018 is already shaping up to be one the best, so make sure you get your registrations in early!
