ROUND 15 – 29th July 2017

All eyes were on the sky for round fifteen of the BARC SBD Speed Championship after a week of wet and unsettled weather. Rain was forecast to come in at some point, but we were lucky. Pretty much everybody got two dry practices and two timed runs.

So, let’s see how that shook out.

In Class A2 – Roadgoing Series Production Cars up to 1800cc, Elen Worthington drove her Elise well in a six strong class to take second place on 71.34 seconds. Hampered slightly by a noticeable hesitation in power after each gearshift, the rolling road guys were en route to the Combe to resolve it on Sunday – Now that’s what you call customer service!

Class A3 – Roadgoing Series Production Cars Over 1800cc up to 2600cc, Steve Riddle scored a great forth place out of thirteen. Steve’s 76.39 seconds was a strong showing, his Clio facing some pretty tough opposition.

Originally in Class A3, Wynne Morgan‘s Renault Clio was moved to Class C3 – Modified Series Production Cars – Car Engines Over 1800cc.  Not daunted and suffering from a real stinker of a cold, Wynne still managed forth place on 74.85 seconds.

RESULTS – ROUND 15

Class B2 – Roadgoing Specialist Production Cars Car Engines Over 1400cc up to 1800cc had Graham Holdstock in the Caterham 7. A little outgunned here, Graham took forth place on 73.39 seconds. This writer finally met Graham after half a season of missing him at meetings. He now knows who’s responsible for the scandalous reports that emerge after each round!

In Class D1 – Sports Libre Cars up to 1800cc, Clive Wooster’s Radical continued its regular battle with Luke Trotman in the supercharged Mallock. Nip and tuck as usual helped them both to PBs – This time Luke coming out on top, three-tenths ahead of Wooster who recorded a 60.60 seconds for second place and forth overall.

Final BARC SBD Speed Championship runner was Phil Williams in the Jedi. Phil’s times continue to come down and he took a good second place in Class E1 – Racing Cars up to 1100cc on 65.86 seconds.

So, it’s the East of Anglia for round sixteen at The Hethel Test Track next – All the Lotuses are returning to their spiritual home!
