2019 Connaught Competition Engines Title Sponsor Banner

Our 2021 Title Sponsor, Connaught Competition Engines, is one of the UK’s leading competition engine preparation specialists. Phil Price and his amazing team take great pride in delivering a truly personal service that benefits from over forty years of industry experience.

Established in 1985, within twelve months its Atlantic BDA had already powered Steve Holland’s GRD to win the Formula Libre Championship. Then, after a move to new premises, the business focused on Formula Ford engines, rapidly establishing a reputation for creating championship winning Ford Kent units that continues to this day.

The company’s work subsequently diversified to encompass a wider range of competition engines, from Ford Twin Cams and Cosworth BDAs to specialist development units including Renault, Alfa Romeo and a number of Japanese car and motorcycle engines.

Today, Connaught’s SuperFlow 871 dynamometer is designed for engine speeds of up to 12,000 rpm and 1500bph power outputs, enabling full build, development and power output documentation of larger engines. These range from the Ford Boss 302 V8 and Ford Cologne Weslake V6 to a range of ex-Formula 1 Judd and Cosworth V8 units used for hill climbing, sprinting and thoroughbred GP racing by Classic Team Lotus.

Historic racing forms an important part of Connaught’s business, with Ford Twin Cams, BDA derivatives and Hart units still much in demand.

Founder Phil Price and his team have also built race-winning engines from earlier eras including the Coventry Climax FW and FPF, plus Ford SCA and FVA units. The business also has full manufacturing rights for the Warrior 16 Valve Twin Cam Ford Pinto based engine, much in demand for historic rallying after their adoption by Holbay.

However, the scope of Connaught’s offer is not confined to engines and includes a full race preparation service. In 2004, this supported a move to its current 3,500 square foot premises at Wormdale Farm. Since then, the business has gone from strength to strength, expanding both its national and international customer base. It also continues to maintain an enviable track record within motorsport as a true specialist in race winning engines.
