Coming down to the wire now, our penultimate round had a cold start but a warm day and a dry track. Practice with two laps and a full entry passed and we were part way through T2 when an innocuous off caused a stoppage and then eventually abandonment of T2. Despite the efforts of the marshals and rescue team, the resultant oil spillage wasn’t fixable in the time remaining – just bad luck. So, T1 counted and here’s how it went:
Our current (but not for long now) Champion Steve Riddle took Class SB Road Going Standard Production Cars Over 1400cc up to 2000cc to the win in the Renault Clio on 68.56 seconds, beating five others in class and just 2/10th ahead of second man Neal Bateman.
Class 1A – Road Going Standard Series Production Cars up to 1400cc saw Mike Edwards slug it out with Tim Cole, Mike taking second in class on 73.60 seconds in the British Mini, now on new wheels and tyres.
In Class 1B – Road Going Standard Series Production Cars Over 1400cc up to 2000cc, it was great to Wynne Morgan back in the Clio and taking the class on 68.59 seconds. Leo Martorana in the Alfa Mito took a close second on 68.91 seconds.
Class 1C – Saloon Cars Over 2000cc, had seven runners and James Hunt in the BMW E30 took second place on 66.30 seconds, Mrs Hunt took fourth on 70.53 seconds in her VW Golf, newcomer David Skittles in the Subaru Impreza took sixth on 73.86 seconds and Paul Jaggard‘s Alfa 147 seventh on 78.25 seconds.
